The Story of Gail…

Abandonment can wreak havoc on a child

Gail is 48 years old and has had a difficult life since she was a child. Her alcoholic father left her when she was three years old, and her mother was not emotionally equipped to provide a nurturing home for Gail. This left Gail feeling alone, unloved and unworthy for most of her life.

She Hid her Inner Turmoil from the World

Gail seemed to have it all together to her friends and co-workers. She had a great job, her income was abundant, and she owned a beautiful home. No one knew that with all the creature comforts in her possession, she still felt lonely, isolated, empty and never ‘good enough.’

Gail dealt with this inner turmoil by overeating and binge drinking.

Gail’s Awakening

Gail managed to make it through college and to find a lucrative job despite her increased dependence on alcohol and binge eating along with minimal support from her mother.

Gail finally found her lack of healthy coping strategies was catching up to her. Her health was deteriorating and her doctor warned her that she was at risk of an early death if she did not make changes to her current lifestyle.

Two Choices

Gail had two choices: To continue in her misery and to eventually have an early death or to start finding her purpose and joy in life.

A Turning Point for Gail

Gail broke down one night after work when she let herself have yet another binge meal. She decided the time for change was NOW. She had grown to loathe herself.

Gail realized she had put this off long enough, and she knew there had to be a better way to live her life.

She discovered the empowered women’s program offered at NHT for women struggling with body image issues and low self worth as a result unresolved emotional wounds. Gail had longed to connect with others who were sharing her same struggles, and this group seemed to be the answer to her dreams.

A New Gail

By participating in the group and individual sessions at NHT, Gail learned to appreciate her inner worth and to not rely on external accomplishments and possessions to define her value.

Gail found new ways to manage her emotions without feeling like she was punishing herself. Over time, with work and dedication, Gail’s health improved, she lost several pounds, and she ultimately could find love for herself to be loved by others.

Gail developed life-long friendships in the group and ended her years of self-destructive behaviors by focusing on making empowered choices. Gail, for the first time in her life, felt connected, loved, and worthy.

Can you relate to Gail’s story?

Gail is a combination of many of my clients, and her story is not unique. You might relate to parts or most of Gail’s story. This kind of transformation is completely possible for those who are willing to take the risk and do the work to experience complete healing.

More About Me

Over the years, I’ve interviewed thousands of people, most of them women, and I would say that the root of every dysfunction I’ve ever encountered, every problem, has been some sense of a lacking of self-value or of self-worth.
